Hello, my Style Star Sisters. Yes, I admit I absolutely love the fall season. The plethora of fabulous jackets, wraps, leathers, and suedes are definitely among my favorite pieces to wear on those brisk days. I think outerwear is by far one of the most important pieces to invest in. Think about it! You have several months to play with textures, shapes, colors and lengths. The options are endless.

Fashion icons …How to dress like your                            style icons

Recently, we lost one of my favorite actresses, Diahann Carroll.

Even at a young age while watching Julia, I was mesmerized by her classic, sophisticated style, and her ever-present confidence. Besides my beautiful mother, (pic below)

Brenda, who had endless sophistication and style, and Diana Ross, I always wanted to emulate them and show up as my best self. So, I started thinking what would my beloved style icons wear this season? I have selected a few fabulous lux and affordable pieces that are sure to turn heads even on a chilly day.

                       Fee-Fi Faux Fur

I absolutely love a swing coat. It is hands down my go-to favorite accessory for fall. Check out this lovely faux wrap.

I think going with the navy is best. I can see all my ladies rocking this lovely Ellen Tracy wrap coat. This is a great piece for chilly days. I’m sure my mom and Ms. Carroll would approve. It can be found on the Lord & Taylor site for around $180.

                    Fabulous tweeds

I love the classic Chanel tweed jackets. I want them all! St. John knits are the best to show timeless sophistication. Unless you find these luxury pieces at a really good consignment shop or designer sale, you will pay thousands. Don’t fret my style stars. You can easily find great lookalikes for a fraction of  the cost. Check out my selections below.

This Zara find is $129 and great for an office party or night out.

If you want to splurge on some designer finds, I think St. John’s is a smart choice.

This St. John metallic tweed jacket is over $400. It’s truly gorgeous.  You can wear this with pants, a skirt, or jeans. Sometimes style stars, a luxury item is a good investment if you can wear it for many seasons and several ways.

This St. John’s knit jacket I saw this past weekend at Off Saks Fifth Avenue. It is on sale now for $729.99.

Now,  back to more affordable finds.

This is one of my favorite finds. A faux chinchilla wrap is perfect. And, check out the price of $79.99. A real bargain.

The options are plentiful if you want to dress like a diva. Remember, you don’t  have to go broke to look like a million bucks.

Your Style Star Sister,

Natasha

bell sleeves, diana ross, eyebrows trends, fall trends, holey tops, Mahogany the movie, one shoulder, pajama wear

Hello my style star sisters. I must admit we all get sucked into designers forecast about style trends. We all want to look chic and fashionable. Yet, some trends need to go away or left on the racks in our local mall.   But, we buy them anyway promising ourselves that one day we will wear it. Guilty!

Today, I want to share my thoughts on what latest makeup trend or clothing fads to ditch this fall. Trust me I own a few of these trendy terribles but as a card player says you got to know when to fold em, know when to walk away.

 SQUIGGLY EYEBROWS

Honestly, I don’t know why anyone would want their eyebrows to look like a circus clown. This is silly and not attractive. Please leave this so-called called makeup trend to the clowns.

PAJAMAS NOT FOR THE BEDROOM?

Ok, I admit there is something sexy about a silky two-piece pajama set. Nice bold color or print. But, do I want to look like I just jumped out of bed ?  Oh and what about the grease stain from the slice of pizza you had at midnight or was it the glass of wine. Anyway, I think some designers are soo wrong about this trend.

It still looks silly even on a 5’10 tall model. I vote to keep this in the boudoir. What are your thoughts? Should you risk riding the iron horse in your pjs?

 HOLEY TOPS

I admit I think there’s something sexy about a pair of holey or slashed pair of jeans and heels. This shows a stylish I don’t give a damn vibe. However, I think the holey tops should be left to our Saturday cleaning.

Nah, sorry I still think you can be casual and well out together as shown below. A nice jacket will always make a casual outfit like jeans and basic tee pop.

Bell Sleeves

There’s nothing I love more than dramatic pieces that are bold and inspiring. And, sleeves over the years have gone through many fabulous changes. I’m still a die hard fan of doman sleeves. After seeing Diana Ross in Mahogany, I became obsessed with the look. But, I ain’t got love for bell sleeves. This look may be feminine but honestly I don’t want to look like a flamenco dancer.

I love the newer sleeve options like the cold shoulder or one sleeve trend (as shown below) is a good alternative to add the sexy. So, remember my style stars don’t go broke spending your hard earned money on impulse purchases. Buy smart and know when to say bye to a look.

Your style star sister,

Natasha

Diana Ross in Gown from 20130626_165324Hey my Style Star Sisters. You can not help but be influenced just a little by celebrities who dress incredibly whether they’re on the red carpet or running errands in the latest Louboutins and perfectly holey jeans. Quite annoying! Keep in mind that even the most effortless looks are in many cases styled by a well paid stylist.

Thank goodness I have been blessed to have had the best style influence during my young and adult life. My mother Brenda. She was a sophisticated, slingback shoe wearing lady who always shopped on a budget never caring if the name was Evan Picone or if the label was cut out. Who cares. How does it fit and how does it make you feel and move were much more important. Confidence was mom’s best accessory.

I must say our mother’s style had the greatest influence on even how I shop and my own personal style today. I prefer dresses and skirts over jeans any day. And, slingback shoes are still my favorite. I could wear a flea market find and wear it like it was from the racks of Bergdorf Goodman.

If you twisted my arm and made me pick a celebrity who I felt had style reminiscent of my mom’s,  it would have to be Diana Ross in Mahogany and Lady Sings the Blues. Wow, she was impeccable. Beautiful, confident, and effortless. So, I ask you my style sisters, who are your style icons? Let us know.

Your Style sister,
Natasha
